Project on energy efficiency improvement in community kindergarten of Kajaran town in Syunik marz
To replace entrance doors and windows in community kindergarten of Kajaran town, a tender was announced that was won by “Pah parekh” LLC. The project experts performed quality control both of replacement works and of doors and windows to be installed. The company completed the works by October 10, 2010: 2 doors (9.0 sq.m) and 31 windows (70 sq.m) of the kindergarten were replaced.
“Pah parekh” LLC also won the tender for installation of solar water heating system in the kindergarten. Respective equipment, ordered by the company, is expected to reach Armenia on December 10, 2010. After that, assembly and adjustment works will be performed. It is planned to complete the works by the end of the year.
Kajaran projectSpitak Pilot Project putting into operation the centralized heat supply system of 23 multi-apartment buildings of Spitak City “Kentron 1” district During the research done by UNDP/GEF/00035799 “Armenia - Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” Project it was revealed that without large-scale capital investments it is possible to put into operation centralized heat supply system of 23 multi-apartment buildings of Spitak City “Kentron 1” district, making it energy efficient and affordable for consumers. On March 22, 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding between the UNDP and Spitak Municipality was signed in the framework of UNDP/GEF/00035799 “Armenia - Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” Project aimed at putting into operation the centralized heat supply system of 23 apartment buildings of Spitak city “Kentron 1” district.

Centralized Heat Supply Project for Residential Buildings ##6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 19, 23, 25, 46a and 46bAdmitting priority of building insulation necessity and taking into consideration positive results of previous cooperation experience between Aparan municipality and the Project, discussions are on-going on opportunity of providing support to renovation of entrances and installation of entrance doors and windows in multi-apartment buildings ## 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 19, 23, 25 and 46. Within implementation of the relevant pilot project, thermal protection indicators of the buildings’ entrances are expected to increase considerably. This will allow decreasing amounts payable for energy used for heating purposes by 15 to 20 per cent.

Current stage of pilot project in AparanReconstruction of entrances and installation of entrance doors and windows in multi-apartment buildings ##6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 19, 23, 25 and 46 on Baghramyan Street is expected to result in about 17,000 c.m. natural gas saving in heating season thus allowing a benefit of reducing GHG emission by about 35 tCO2e/year.

As of mid-September 2010, two companies are contracted to supply and install entrance doors and windows in multi-apartment buildings ##6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 19, 23, 25 and 46 on Baghramyan Street of Aparan town: "Mar ev Gar" LLC is responsible for entrance doors and "Spitak Kamar" LLC – for windows. Works performance is under contrl of the Project experts. As of mid-November, both sub-contractors completed respective works: 40 doors (111.5 sq.m) and 180 windows (210.5 sq.m) were replaced in 9 buildigs. In the up-coming heating season, monitoring of heating quality will be performed to test the results of the works performed.
Aparan_new projectProject for improving the energy efficiency of the boiler house located at Shahumyan 9/1 in Spitak cityThe Project and Spitak Municipality share their responsibilities on performance of the work aiming to improve energy efficiency of the Boiler House at 7 Shahumyan str. in Spitak city. As a result of this pilot project implementation about 30,000 m3 of gas savings and correspondingly about 27t of CO2e emission reduction annually could be ensured.

District Heating Rehabilitation Project in Avan Community of Yerevan City
Restoring of district heating (DH) system in Avan residential area is envisaged by the master plan of Yerevan city for 2005-2020. In the frames of “Armenia - Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” UNDP/GEF project Avan residential area was selected among those envisaged by the master plan as the most feasible and prospective one, based on relevant studies of rehabilitation opportunities of DH systems on the basis of cogeneration technologies.
Avan_DH rehabilitation
Monitoring of district heating systems in Avan district of YerevanThe Project has directly participated in all the phases of the implementation of the project for restoring Avan DH, therefore it is one of the Project’s main objectives to monitor this system operation with the aim to assess and analyze its energy efficiency indicators. For that purpose, the present task was initiated within the frames of the Project, including the following activities:
• Assess heat and hot water supply indicators of centralized heat supply systems;
• Assess the energy efficiency of centralized heat supply systems in comparison with individual heat supply options;
• Assess greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the operations of centralized heat supply systems and compare them with those resulting from individual heat supply options;
• Develop recommendations for building and developing the capacities of organizations operating in the energy audit and energy saving sectors.
The task is implemented by “Jermgasshin” company. During 2009-2010 heating season, measurements has been performed (i) at the boiler house and Energy Center, (ii) at building level heat substation, (iii) of indoor temperature and apartment level heat and hot water consumption, and (iv) of ambient temperature during the implementation of the monitoring.
Besides, results of the monitoring were summarized and analyzed, based on which some measures for improving the energy efficiency of systems was elaborated, together with economic and environmental assessment of their implementation. However, because of unusual warm winter the results of monitoring are not representative and so monitoring will be recommenced in forthcoming heating season.
