Gyumri Pilot Project
putting into operation the centralized heat supply systems of Khrimyan Hayrik 3a, 5a, 4b and Raskatlyan 1 multi-apartment buildings of Gyumri CityDuring the research done by UNDP/GEF/00035799 “Armenia - Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” Project it was revealed that without large-scale capital investments it is possible to put into operation centralized heat supply systems of Khrimyan Hayrik 3a and 5a buildings, as well as Khrimyan Hayrik 4b and Raskatlyan 1 buildings in “Tbilisyan 1” district of Gyumri city, making them energy efficient and affordable for consumers.
During the research done by UNDP/GEF Project it was revealed that for putting both systems into operation and making them energy efficient the following identical works should be done in both systems:
- Installation of gas-meters;
- Replacement of the heating network feed and circulations pumps with new energy efficient ones;
- Installation of expansion vessels, heat meters, safety valves, etc;
- Installation of riser valves;
- Ensuring thermo-insulation of pipes and equipment;
- Hydraulic testing of external and internal heat networks.

Pilot project of introduction of hat water supply system by means of solar water heaters in the Khanjyan 43 District Heating system.Introduction of the solar water heating systems for supplying hot water to the multi apartment buildings can be reviewed as supplementary alternative source of energy to the existing hot water supply systems operating on natural gas.
The SWH use can have a strategic importance for Armenia by the reasons of reducing the need for imported fuel, as well as to improve country’s energy security.
The UNDP/GEF “Armenia. Improving the energy efficiency of residential heating and hot water supply” project aiming to promote the use of alternative environmentally clean and energy efficient technologies in the district heating systems has initiated a pilot project of introduction of solar water heaters in the centralized hot water supply system in the Khanjyan 43 boiler plant in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia.
The main expected outcomes of the Project implementation are the following:
- Provision of hot water supply to 77 flats (households) of Sayat Nova 33 multi apartment residential building,
- Implementation of Pilot Project used Renewable Energy source for heat supply purposes in the district heating system,
- GHG gases emissions reduction in comparing with the options of hot water supply by means of gas fired boilers.

Spitak Pilot Project
putting into operation the centralized heat supply system of 23 multi-apartment buildings of Spitak City “Kentron 1” districtDuring the research done by UNDP/GEF/00035799 “Armenia - Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” Project it was revealed that without large-scale capital investments it is possible to put into operation centralized heat supply system of 23 multi-apartment buildings of Spitak City “Kentron 1” district, making it energy efficient and affordable for consumers.
On March 22, 2007 a Memorandum of Understanding between the UNDP and Spitak Municipality was signed in the framework of UNDP/GEF/00035799 “Armenia - Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” Project aimed at putting into operation the centralized heat supply system of 23 apartment buildings of Spitak city “Kentron 1” district.

Survey on heat supply conducted among the residents of the multi-apartment buildings #8, 9 and 10 of the Varuzhan district in Avan communityOn December 2007 specialists and experts from the UNDP/GEF “Armenia – Improving the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Heating and Hot Water Supply” Project and the “ArmRosCogeneration” CJSC conducted a survey among the residents of the above-mentioned buildings in Avan to clarify their approach to centralized heat supply recovery. The survey was made on a general basis and included those who were in their homes at the time of the survey.
