As non-Annex I country to the UNFCCC, Armenia has announced its decision to take voluntary mitigation measures for limitation of GHG emissions within the frames of the corresponding mechanism of the Convention.
Within the framework of the “Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Armenia’s Third National Communication to the UNFCCC” Project it is envisaged to support the Government of the Republic of Armenia in assessing the current situation and needs in energy sector for meeting goals under Sustainable Energy for ALL (SE4ALL) initiative and planning the National Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs).
UNDP Armenia within the framework of the Project initiated the rapid assessment and gap analysis in the energy sector of Armenia in close cooperation with respective ministries, agencies and research institutions. The report developed by the expert team was based on information available from reports and studies on situation in energy sector of Armenia conducted during recent years and on consultations with appropriate agencies and stakeholders in the country.
The purpose of Rapid Assessment and Gap Analysis was to provide: a quick brief look of the energy situation in the country within the context of its economic and social development and poverty eradication; a review of where the country is in terms of the three SE4ALL goals, and an estimate of the main challenges and opportunities vis-à-vis the three goals of SE4ALL where the major investments, policies and enabling environments will be required.
