WORKSHOP ON WATER RESOURCES VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT AND PLLANING OF ADAPTATION MEASURES UNDER CLIMATE CHANGE (28/02/2013)
The draft report on “Water resources vulnerability under climate change” developed by the “Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Armenia’s Third National Communication to the UNFCCC” UNDP/GEF Project expert was discussed at the workhop held in “Hotel Aviatrans” on February 28, 2013.
Within the frames of the “Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Armenia’s Third National Communication to the UNFCCC” UNDP/GEF Project, it is planned to develop Armenia’s Third National Communication under Climate Change. The national Communication should include the analysis of the water sector vulnerability assessment as well as the main aspects of adaptation measures.
The workshop was attended by the representatives of the Water Resources Management Agency of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia, State Committee for Water Management of the Ministry of Territorial administration of Armenia, State Service of Hydrometeorology and Monitoring of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia, as well as representatives of the international projects.
The UNDP Climate Change Program Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan welcomed participants and presented the objectives of the workshop. According to the agenda the Project expert Mr. Vilik Sargsyan made a presentation on the initial findings of the report on water resources vulnerability under climate change, developed within the frames of the Project in 2012. The expert Mr. Alexander Arakelyan made a presentation on “Assessment of Water Resources Vulnerability under Climate Change by Using WEAP Model”.
The representatives of the international projects made presentations on the mainstreaming of climate change issues into water sector assessment within the frames of the relevant international projects.
At the end of the workshop productive discussions were held. In a result of these discussions it was decided to provide the report to the participants for further comments and recommendations.
