On May 26, 2013, the first joint monitoring visit to the pilot tree planting site located in Akhtala community of RA Lori marz was organized by UNDP-GEF “Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Armenia’s Third National Communication to the UNFCCC” and EU “Waste Governance – ENPI East” projects.

Following the request of the Ministry of Nature Protection of RA, the group of UNDP experts performed calculation of grid emission factor for the Armenian electricity system for the year 2011 in accordance with the appropriate methodology approved by the CDM Executive Board.

As non-Annex I country to the UNFCCC, Armenia has announced its decision to take voluntary mitigation measures for limitation of GHG emissions within the frames of the corresponding mechanism of the Convention. UNDP Armenia within the framework of the TNC Project initiated the rapid assessment and gap analysis in the energy sector of Armenia in close cooperation with respective ministries, agencies and research institutions.

On February 09, 2012 Mr. Aram Gabrielyan, Focal Point of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change , gave an interview to “The Armenian Times” daily newspaper. The article is entitled as “Temperature in Armenia grew by 0.85⁰C”.

The Steering Committee and Inception Meeting of the “Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Armenia’s Third National Communication to the UNFCCC” UNDP/GEF Project was conducted on December 20, 2011. The event was attended by the Steering Committee members and corresponding stakeholder national and international organizations.
