UNDP Armenia organized a seminar on “Complex Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources of Marmarik River Basin of Armenia” that took place in UN Conference hall on March 13, 2009. During the seminar, results of complex assessment of CC impacts on water resources of Marmarik River basin of Armenia performed by “GeoInfo” LLC within Second national communication preparation project as well as the importance of adaptation measures in water basin planning and management were discussed.
The seminar’s resulting decisions were that in addition to water balances that rely on multiyear data, those based on recent years data should also be compiled, water balance has to include CC considerations in water planning especially when long term water use permits have to be granted. Participants stressed that the most attentions should be granted to issues of data reliability, prediction and monitoring of mudflows, monitoring of changes in landscape borders and of underground waters. It was also decided that reference monitoring should be performed in points chosen according to special criteria, including the currently operational points, that data should be available for scientists, analysts, students; necessity of higher awareness among vulnerable groups of water users was stressed.
