UNDP Armenia jointly with "EcoLur" NGO organized a seminar for journalist
students of Armenian higher educational institutions on April 29, 2008. The seminar aims to raise young journalists awareness on climate change issues and encourage their contributions to those issues media coverage.
Both during the presentations and within Q&A section, participants were active proposing issued for discussion. Participants were interested in the position that Armenia took on challenges in the field and current activities. Among the questions are: if unusual heat in the early spring this year is result of the climate change, why the currently observed climate change is harmful for the humanity and for the planet Earth, what the functions of Yerevan city Kentron district vegetation are, how the value of a cut tree should be assessed: by the tree’s shadow, timber, view or something else, what the position of the seminar’s organizers is concerning Teghut forests, if programs the UN proposed to Armenian Government have ever been rejected, what tangible effects of UN-funded programs are, what measures are aimed at improving land use efficiency, how negative effect of environmental pollution on human health is accounted for and what programs there are to minimize that, what informational and teaching centers currently work on these issues, how TV-broadcasted information on climate change may be enriched and how to encourage demand for information already available, how these issues are being solved in the other countries of the region.
Seminars organizers proposal to the participants is to elaborate and submit articles on topics in the field of climate change they were most interested in; best pieces will be placed on web-pages of "EcoLur" NGO and of Climate Change Information Center of Armenia.
