Seminar on “Vulnerability of Mountain Forest Ecosystems and Enhancement of Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts” (17-18/09/2010)

 Seminar on “Vulnerability of Mountain Forest Ecosystems and Enhancement of Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts” took place on 17-18 September 2010 in Goris, Syunik region in the scope of the “Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Mountain Forest Ecosystems of Armenia” UNDP/GEF Project. The seminar aimed at raising awareness of Armenian media representatives on climate change related issues with respect to Armenia’s mountain forest ecosystems. 17 reporters from 9 republican and 6 Syunik region media attended the event. Besides, representatives of the Ministry of Nature Protection, Ministry of Agriculture and Armenian Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia as well as Syunik Regional Administration participated in the seminar. Participants also visited a forest rehabilitation pilot project site in Shurnukh Forestry of Syunik Forest Enterprise.

By the end of the seminar the participants were proposed to write afterwards an article, interview or scenario on forest vulnerability and adaptation to climate change impacts issues for publication with particular focus on Syunik region. The selected best articles will be posted on the web-site of the Climate Change Information Center of Armenia, the authors of the five selected best articles will receive the acknowledgement certificates, and the author of the best article will also be awarded a cash prize.
