Round table on “Stocktaking of Current Forest Fire Management Practices and Issues in Syunik”
The round table on “Stocktaking of Current Forest Fire Management Practices and Issues in Syunik” took place on 10 November 2010 in Kapan, Syunik in the scope of the “Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Mountain Forest Ecosystems of Armenia” UNDP/GEF Project. The round table aimed at stocktaking of current forest fire management practices and related issues in Syunik Marz. The representatives of the marz administration, local forest enterprises and protected areas, fire and rescue detachments participated in the event. During the round table the dynamics of forest fire incidences in Armenia and particularly in Syunik over the last decade in correlation with climate change was presented. The participants were also informed on forest fire risk reduction component and related activities planned under the project. The participants discussed the forest fire management current practices and issues in Syunik and expressed their approaches to improve the forest fire control. The results of the round-table will serve as a basis for further development and implementation of measures under the project to mitigate elevated forest fire risk in Syunik due to climate change and climate variability.
