Second National Communication - International News
On June 06, 2011 the main outcomes and results of the Armenia’s Second National Communication were presented at the side event during the Subsidiary Bodies 34 session, Bonn, Germany.
The report “Complex Assessment of Climate Change Impact on Water Resources in Marmarik River Basin of Armenia”, developed within the scope of the “Enabling Activities for the Preparation of Armenia’s Second National Communication to the UNFCCC” UNDP/GEF/00035196 Project, is included in the “Guidance on Water Adaptation to Climate Change” developed by UN Economic Commission for Europe.
In June 2011 the vulnerability and adaptation issues of Armenia under climate change were discussed at the meeting held by “Mountain partnership” organized by the FAO in Bonn, Germany.
UNEP has published Green Economy Report, entitled “Towards a Green Economy” provides timely and practical guidance to policy makers on what reforms they need to unlock the potential of a green economy.
According to Lenta.Ru in August 2010 the Ety-Purovskoe oil field in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District has produced a non-typical pipeline. By this pipeline associated petroleum gas is dispatched. Before, this gas was burnt by “Gasprom Neft”. So, by this the Russian company gets a dual benefit: not only by selling the gas but also not emitting greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
Mr. Artashes Sargsyan, the author of "Renewable Energy Use in the World and in Armenia: Innovations towards Clean Technologies" educational brochure, published by the Project, presented his approaches and findings at Online Conference on South Caucasus Energy Problems, organized by Georgian colleagues.
Armenia took part in 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Frameworks Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol (COP 16) and in 6th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 6). The events were organized in Cancun, Mexico, from 29 November to 10 December, 2010.
During the tenth Forum of the Designated National Authorities (DNA) for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat on 27-28 of November in Cancun, Mexico, Armenia was announced as one of 3 DNAs, which received the “DNA Communicator of the Year Showcase” Award by the UNFCCC Secretariat in recognition of the work done to raise awareness about and participation in the CDM. The other 2 DNAs who received award were Rwanda and Brazil.
New booklet on CDM Methodology is published in November, 2010. This booklet provides concise summaries of approved CDM methodologies.
