Forest Adaptation Project Board Meeting

Meeting of the Board of the "Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Mountain Forest Ecosystems of Armenia" UNDP/GEF Project was held on August 24, 2012. The objective of the meeting was to present and discuss the Project Implementation Report for the July 2011 - June 2012 period and Annual Work Programme for the July 2012 - June 2013 period. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Simon Papyan, Firts Deputy Minister, Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia, Co-chair of the Project Board. Project Borad decided to (i) take into consideration the Project implementation report for 2011-2012, and (ii) approve the Project Work Plan for 2012-2013.

Pilot measures to enhance adaptive capacities of mountain forest ecosystems to climate change impacts in Syunik region reviewed in the field

On-the-ground adaptation response measures to enhance the adaptive capacities of mountain forest ecosystems to climate change impacts are piloted on three field study sites in the Syunik region under the “Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Mountain Forest Ecosystems of Armenia” UNDP/GEF/00051202 Project. The target of the pilot projects is to apply chosen selected adaptation measures against the climate change impacts in the region, and based on the experiences of these pilots, draw recommendations for larger scale applications of measures to improve forest ecosystem resilience to climate change.

Forest Adaptation Project Board Meeting

Meeting of the Board of the "Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Mountain Forest Ecosystems of Armenia" UNDP/GEF Project was held on July 23, 2010. The objective of the meeting was to present and discuss the Project Implementation Report for the July 2009 - June 2010 period and Annual Work Programme for the July 2010 - June 2011 period. The meeting was chanred by Mr. Simon Papyan, Firts Deputy Minister, Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia, Co-chair of the Project Board. Project Borad decided to (i) take into consideration the Project implementation report for 2009-2010, and (ii) approve the Project Work Plan for 2010-2011. The Project Board also made recommendations for project further implemenation and decided to hold a special field meeting in Syunik in autumn of 2010.

Forest Ecosystems Adaptation Project Inception Workshop (03/07/2009)

UNDP Armenia and the RA Ministry of Nature Protection organized inception workshop of the “Adaptation to Climate Change Impacts in Mountain Forest Ecosystems of Armenia” UNDP/GEF/00051202 Medium-sized Project on July 3, 2009.

The objective of the workshop is to ensure organization of the UNDP/GEF Project inception workshop with participation of stakeholders in order to comply with the GEF requirements, present Project implementation process and implementation arrangements to the Project Board members, governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, and discuss the project draft annual work plan (2009-2010).

The Project Board members, representatives of governmental stakeholders, scientific and educational institutions, international organisations, NGOs, and students participated in the event.

The Project Board decided to approve the annual work plan (2009-2010) of the Project taking into account recommendations submitted by the Project Board members within the upcoming one week, as well as to extend the Project Board composition and apply to the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the RA National Statistical Service  reguesting to nominate candidacies for the Project Board.
