Adaptation to Climate Change in Mediterranean Forest Conservation and Management

The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, WWF Mediterranean Programme and WWF Greece organized a workshop on Adaptation to Climate Change in Mediterranean Forest Conservation and Management in Athens, Greece on April 14-16, 2008.

The major question of the workshop was: How can we increase forest and social resilience to major disturbances, such as large scale fires, which are exacerbated by climate change in the Mediterranean region? Among topics, climate change predictions for the region were discussed and climate change adaptation tools that have proved to be successful in other areas were introduced. As the followup to the project, a joint IUCN/WWF programme of work and strategy on Mediterranean forest adaptation to climate change, will be developed.
