Within the framework of the EC "Technical Assistance to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova with Respect to their Global Climate Change Commitments" regional project a high-level regional workshop on Set-up of the DNA and CDM Host Country Approval Criteria was held at Bakuriany, Georgia on March 16-17, 2006. The event hosted officials and experts from all four participant countries as well as representatives of a number of environmental NGOs.
Mr. Albert Zweering, Project Team Leader, made a presentation on CDM Sustainability Criteria focusing on analysis of approaches recommended for assessment of CDM projects contribution to the Host country sustainable development. In particular, Mr. Zweering introduced Multi-Criteria Analysis, Sustainable Profile Approach and Weighted Method.
After the first presentation the floor went to Ms. Marina Shvangiradze, UNDP/GEF "Preparation of Georgia's Second National Communication under the UNFCCC" Project Coordinator, who made an overview of DNA structures and institutional set-up in China, India, Brazil and other non-Annex I countries.
The next presentation made by Mr. Zweering was devoted to introduction of project progress achieved since its launch in summer 2004.
At the second session of the workshop project coordinators made presentations on undertaken public outreach activities, namely, project websites development and update, organization of CDM training seminars, publication of brochures and guidelines as well as CDM calendars designed by the project teams. A separate presentation was made on Implementation of Nubarashen Landfill Gas Capture and Power Generation Project in Yerevan City.
In the conclusive part of the workshop Mr. Zweering made a presentation on Commercialisation of CDM Projects where CDM projects financing options and main barriers were discussed.
