PDD Developer:

Energocor Ltd.

CERs Recipient:

Has not been identified yet.

Project Objective:

The main purpose of the project activity is generation of clean hydroelectric energy and contribution to climate change mitigation efforts.

Project Description:

The proposed project activity involves implementation and operation of a 0,955 MW Small Hydroelectric grid connected renewable energy project on the Siskhana river, Armenia. Hankavan-1 SHPP is located in Kotayk Marz and embraces middle site of Siskhana River. The electricity generated by Hankavan SHPP will be sold to the Armenian Electricity Network (AEN).

Hankavan-1 SHPP will use the hydro potential of river Siskhana. The length of that section is equal to 3,0 km, and the fall is 81,3 m. All constructions of the HPP are located in that section.

The hydroelectric power station is of derivation type. Its principal units are:

- Head unit
- Pressure derivation water carrier
- Station unit
- Removing water canal.

Hankavan SHPP will be equipped with 3 horizontal Pelton turbines with 0,995 MW of nominal power. The electricity will be supplied to the substation which is 3 km distance from the head unit.

The hydro-energy indices of Hankavan SHPP are as follows:

  • Designed pressure - 81,35 m;
  • Designed outflow - 1,52 m3/sec;
  • Generation capacity - 0,995 MW;
  • Average annual power generatio- 2,71 million kWh.

Expected Outcomes:

The following outcomes are expected in case of project materialization:

  • Generation of permanent and temporary employment opportunities;
  • Attraction of capital and contribution to the economic development of the local community;
  • Contribution to reliability of energy supply.

Project Status:

The project was approved by the Armenian Designated National Authority for the CDM on August 21, 2008.

Currently, the project participant negotiate with various carbon funds and companies interested in project financing and CERs purchase. Once investor is found, the project participants will proceed with project validation and further registration.

Project Timing: Expected date for commissioning of construction works is March 2009.
