Regional Conference on CDM and JI Developments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Regional conference on CDM and JI Developments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia was held in the framework of the EC "Technical Assistance to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova with regard to their Global Climate Change Commitments" project on June 1-2, 2006. The conference was held in Batumi, Georgia and hosted more then eighty delegates from the project participant countries as well as various international organizations and NGO's.

The conference concerned the institutional set-up of the DNA in the Caucasus and Moldova, CDM Host-country approval procedures in the Region, CDM and JI project developments, marketing and  commercialization of CDM and JI, public outreach activities undertaken in the framework of the regional project.

A separate session was devoted to presentation of CDM projects developed by the project teams under the technical assistance component. The mentioned CDM projects were developed in various sectors, such as renewable energy (Gegharot and Eghvard-2 Small Scale HPPS in Armenia, Gilanchay Cascade & Mil Hydropower CDM Projects in Azerbaijan and Hydropower Rehabilitation CDM Projects in Moldova), afforestation (Community Small Scale Afforestation / Reforestation Project in RA Lori Marz), methane capture (Gardabani Wastewater Treatment Plant Methane Capture & Utilization Project in Georgia and Methane Capture & Biogas-to-Energy CDM Project for Poultry Farms in Moldova).

The event was also aimed at facilitating information and experience exchange among participants and demonstration of progress achieved by the regional project from 2004 to 2006.
