CERs Recipient:

According to the information provided by the project participant Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) for the sale and purchase of CERs generated by the proposed CDM project activity will be signed with EBRD Multilateral Carbon Credit Fund (MCCF).

Project Objective:

The main purpose of the project activity is generation of clean hydroelectric energy and contribution to climate change mitigation efforts.

Project Description:

The proposed project activity involves implementation and operation of 8,5 MW Small Hydroelectric grid connected renewable energy project on the Argichi river, Armenia. The electricity generated by Argichi SHPP will be sold to the Armenian Electricity Network.

Argichi HPP is located in Gegharkunik marz and embraces middle site of Argichi River, which is the largest confluent of the lake Sevan.

The main purpose of the project activity is generation of clean hydroelectric energy and contribution to climate change mitigation efforts.

Argichi SHPP will use the hydro potential of river Argichi. The length of that section is equal to 9 km, and the fall is 287 m.

Argichi SHPP will be equipped with 4 horizontal Pelton turbines with 8,5 MW of nominal power. The electricity will be supplied to Lichk substation which is 7 km distance from the head unit.

The hydro-energy indices of Argichi HPP are as follows:

  • Designed pressure - 223,0 m
  • Designed outflow - 4,8 m3/sec.
  • Generation capacity - 8,56 MW
  • Average annual power generation - 30,5 million kWh.

Expected Outcomes:

The following outcomes are expected in case of project materialization:

  • Diversification of energy sources in Armenia;
  • Reduction of the dependence on imported energy carriers, such as natural gas;
  • Employment generation for skilled and unskilled local population, etc.

Project Status:

The project is validated by KPMG Sustainability B.V. and submitted to the CDM Executive Board for registration. It was registered by the CDM Executive Board on February 24, 2008. The project owner has already signed a loan agreement with EBRD. Currently the project owner is expecting the final part of the investment to initiate construction works.

Project Timing: Construction works will be launched in 2009.
