Project Description:

The Amberd Cascade Small-Scale Hydropower Project is a small-scale hydropower project in Aragacotn Marz in the Republic of Armenia. Total installed capacity of the Project will be 11.54 MW. The project consists of three levels of power stations.

The capacity of the first power station is 2.4 MW, the capacity of the second station is 4.27 MW and the capacity of the third station is 4.87 MW. Amberd-1 will start generate electricity in April 2009, Amberd-2 in August 2009 and Amberd-3 in April 2010. The electricity generated by Project will be sold to the Armenian Electricity Network.

Hydro-energy indices of Amberd-1 SHPP are as follows:
Designed pressure -140 m;
Designed outflow - 2,4 m3;
Average annual power generation - 5,690 MWh;
Installed capacity - 2,4 MW;
Lengh of the pipeline - 2.280 m.

Hydro-energy indices of Amberd-2 SHPP are as follows:
Designed pressure - 285 m;
Designed outflow - 2,0 m3;
Average annual power generation - 9,690 MWh;
Installed capacity - 4,27 Mw;
Length of the pipeline - 4.000 m.

Hydro-energy indices of Amberd-3 SHPP are as follows:
Designed pressure - 295 m;
Designed outflow - 2,4 m3;
Average annual power generation - 14,300 MWh;
Installed capacity - 4.87 Mw;
Lengh of the pipeline - 3.000 m.

Project Status:

The project was validated by TUV SUD and approved by the Armenian Designated National Authority for the CDM.

Project Timing: The Amberd-1 SHPP will be commissioned on 01.04.2009
