The
State Museum of Nature under RA Ministry of Nature Protection and the
"Association of Museum Workers and Friends" NGO with support
of UNDP/GEF "National Capacity Self Assessment For Global Environmental
Management" (NCSA) Project organized a round table on "The Role
of Museums in Environmental Education" and an exhibition on "The
Biodiversity of Armenia in Hrach Ghazaryan's, Karen Yeranyan's and Aghasy
Karagyozyan's photos". The event took place on June 25, 2004, 2:00
pm at the State Museum of Nature of Armenia.
The exhibition and the round table were attended by representatives from
Ministries of Nature Protection, Culture, Science and Education, Defense,
RA National Institute of Education, Yerevan State Pedagogical Institute
after Khachatur Abovyan, National Assembly, museums, NGOs, international
organizations and UNDP.
The goal of the event was to promote the improvement of environmental
education and increase of the role of nature science museums in that aspect,
as well as focus the attention of the public and state bodies on the problems
of the State Museum of Nature of Armenia, hold discussions for finding
cooperation ways among NGOs, specialized associations and donors aimed
at using museum capacities for effective provision of environmental education.
The exhibition was followed by a round table according to the agenda.
The round table was opened by Project NCSA Project Coordinator Ms. Diana
Harutyunyan. She signified in her speech the role of museums in provision
of environmental education. She presented the participants the analysis
of media capacities in Armenia carried out in the framework of NCSA Project.
Ms. Harutyunyan also mentioned that a proposal is envisaged to be submitted
to the RA Ministry of Science and Education for including hours in curricula,
which will be conducted in the museum. She signified the importance of
cooperation with NGOs, because they are more trained on fundraising activities.
In the end Ms. Diana Harutyunyan mentioned that NCSA Project will support
development of relevant proposals to be submitted to donors for funding.
