ARMENIA
NATIONAL CAPACITY SELF-ASSESSMENT FOR GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
UNDP/GEF/ARM/02/G31/A/1G/99 |
The
objective of the NCSA project is to determine the priority needs, and
a plan of action, for developing Armenia's
capacity to meet its commitments to global environmental management.
The project will focus on capacity related
issues, common across the conventions, assessing the capacities for
adressing those issues in a synergistic
fashion, including needs associated with strengthening of existing institutional
mechanisms and developing networks.

In
the framework of the project an assessment of priority capacity building
needs in the three areas: in-situ and
ex-situ conservation and sustainable use, monitoring (including
taxonomy) and access to genetic resources
and benefit sharing was conducted, as well as developed Strategies on
Specially Protected Areas,

CAPACITY
BUILDING FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF GREENHOUSE GAS INVENTORIES
(EUROPE/CIS REGION) |
The
project will initiate a regional programmatic approach developed to
build capacity for improving the quality of data inputs to national
greenhouse gas inventories, using the good practice guidance of the
Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change for cost-effectiveness. The
project will build on the expertise gained during the preparation of
the initial National Communications. By strengthening institutional
capacity to prepare inventories and establishing a trained, sustainable
inventory team, the project will help countries to reduce uncertainties
and improve the quality of inventories for subsequent National Communications.
This, in turn, will
allow countries to improve national strategies for reducing greenhouse
gas emissions. The project includes common activities for all participating
countries carried out under a regional umbrella; countries may choose
the remaining activities to carry out, based on national priorities.
The approach has been built on the concept of key sources of emissions;
this allows the approach to be replicated for use in other regions with
only minor modifications.
Participating
countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia,
Moldova, Mongolia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan
